Cold War designed by Bibliotheque...

Just noticed that the Cold War Modern exhibition at the V&A was designed by the wonderful Bibliotheque and UniversalDesignStudio.

I love the gallery guide produced by Bibliotheque, using colour coding to define each of the eight sections. The guide establishes a relationship between the exhibition zones and the captioning system, making navigation and orientation as simple as possible.

Cold War Design...

Fascinating offerings from the V&A's recent exhibition Cold War Modern : Design in 1945-70. The exhibition explores the development of Design in this period of particular political tension, from the end of the Second World War to the mid 1970s, when Tupperware was as important as nuclear missiles, good narrative.

V&A, until 19th January.

MUTATE...

MUTATE London, mysterious art goings-on to be seen Behind the Shutters! Interactive mash of work from over 60 artists, featuring Mutoid Waste Company in collaboration with Behind the Shutters Gallery.

Future kitchens...

The V&A's Cold War Design exhibition reminded me of these video clips of "future kitchens." The industrial promotional films from the 1950s paint an exciting picture of what people expected of the kitchen and the house of the future.

Tube map examined...

An old video, but one especially for all those graphic designer commuters. BBC 4's Design Classics series looked at the London Underground tube map. This 25-minute documentary explores the visual design of the map designed by Harry Beck. It is such a strong visual diagram along with the clarity of typeface.
